If all prisoners quit working COMPLETELY would most jails close?
29.September, 2009
That would mean the wardens would have to hire…
1. Janitors
2. Laundry people
3. Cooks
4. Plumbing people
No revenue would come in from any other job such as field work, telemarketing, making clothing, washing & maintaining vehicles etc etc etc.
If all prisoners QUIT doing anything and just sat there, would prisons lose all financing thus having to release all but the haneous criminals that taxpayers are willing to really PAY to keep locked up?
I don’t think some of you understand the concept of prison. The wardens have budgets. IF the prisoners are not working because NOBODY can make them work, then they will have to hire a tremendous amount of staff.
This would be an enormous amount of money to the prison. They simply could not afford it. Think of EVERY job the prisoners do to keep the prison running. Now think of the wardens having to hire people with real $$$ to do the jobs.
Also, it is required for prisons to give prisoners a fairly clean and decent place under human rights. So it’s not like they would get away with them rotting in their cells.
No, taxpayers would start insisting on what should have been done a long time ago. Which is to stop giving prisoners so many perks. It’s a punishment, not a Holiday Inn. Before most people would want to see prisoners, even less heinous criminals, out on the street, we’d want to see costs cuts. Shut their cable off and take away the TVs and sell them,, whatever benefits that could be cut would be cut. If an honest person in our society can’t afford something, then prisoners certainly shouldn’t have it either. Frankly as someone said above, the prisoners would crack before the public would on this issue.
It’s a punishment, as far as I am concerned they don’t have a choice. Quitting is something you can do when you have control over your own life, when you break a law bad enough to go to prison, you are giving up your rights. Put them on a chain gang and let them pick up trash by the side of the road for all I care. They took away from society, then need to repay their debt.
What is the penalty for refusing to go to jail after being convicted and sentenced?
29.September, 2009
A friend of mine is planning on "running away" after he was convicted and sentenced. He goes to jail on Friday but wants to avoid it- by running. I know it’s stupid, and that’s what I’m trying to prove. What would be the punishment for an act like this?
I’m assuming it varies state-by-state, but he lives in Tennessee.
Thank you in advance.
I see a multitude of other problems arising from this. Fleeing to avoid prosecution if he stays local. As soon as he crosses a state line, it can be upgraded to a felony charge of Fugitive from Justice. If he tries to assume a false identity and social, more charges for assuming an alias. No matter what he does, he would be looking at more years added for additional charges being tacked on. Best case scenario is living for the rest of your life looking over your shoulder wondering when the system will catch you. Once the charges are on the computer, there is no time limit. It stays for life.
Best and only advice is to accept what has happened, do your time and get on with your life upon release.
Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you

What’s the regular court/correctional process when someone is arrested carrying drugs thru the Mexico border?
29.September, 2009
someone I know has been arrested and I am trying to locate him trhu the correctional facilities on southern california…how can I do it? whats the fed agency I should contact?
He won’t likely be in a state prison unless his case was turned over to another agency for prosecution. Sometimes, if the feds are too busy to take a case or it doesn’t meet their minimum guidelines, they will ask the state, county, or local law enforcement agencies if they want to prosecute it.
Call the Port of Entry where he was arrested, if you know which one it was. If you know the state where he was entering to, call all of them.
You can find the contact info for the POE here…
http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/contacts/ports/
They may be able to help you.
You can also call the Bureau of Prisons to see if he is in Federal Custody.
My advice, wash your hands of this person. If you lay down with dogs, you get fleas.

Is Abu Ghraib a true symbol of Iraqi Liberation and freedom?
29.September, 2009
"Under the dictator, prisons like Abu Gar__reb__ were symbols of death and torture…When that prison is complete, detainees at Abu Garomp will be relocated. Then, with the approval of the Iraqi government, we will demolish the Abu Garab prison, as a fitting symbol of Iraq’s new beginning"—George W. Bush, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, may, 24, 2004.
Assuming Bush is reffering to Abu Ghraib, is it a fitting symbol of "Operation Iraqi Freedom"?
YES
The prison is being raised and a monument will be placed in it’s former location. As a parallel project Halliburton is building a new prison (no bid open end contract)
What better symbolizes the War on the citizens of Iraq?

what is the percentage of prisoners in the U.S correctional facilities that get raped while in prison?
27.September, 2009
I would try to be more specific. It totally depends on what kind of prison you are talking about. I would imagine that statistics are vastly under reported.
One in five prisoners report having faced unwanted sexual attention according to the "Prison Rape Factsheet"
Also, depending on the amount of time a prisoner is up against it may be more of a consensual thing.
