Is there a reason why black Americans statistically have a 65% incarceration rate?
28.February, 2010
And makeup 40% of all inmates in federal prisons across America? This is for a criminology assignment.
there is a correlation between crime and poverty. there is also a correlation between being a minority and being poor. its not that surprising that black americans are incarcerated at the rate they are
What is life in a prison is like for a typical inmate and why? How would one adjust to living in prison?
28.February, 2010
What do you think would be your major issues as an inmate and why?
Honestly it depends on what kind of prison. My bf was in a low security prison which was an open dorm and had plenty of people to talk to and interact with. There are more politics in there then out here. There are rules to follow depending on what side you’re on. Its lonely because you don’t have the people to love, but for some they have no family and they enjoy the prison life. When hes in a 2 man cell they end up either becoming best friends or hating each other. They share stories and food. Its a thing that you just have to adjust. You end up finding someone that teaches you the way around. It sucks its no life for a person.
Do inmates in an Ohio county jail get time to use the internet?
28.February, 2010
I know someone who is supposed to be serving a 20 day sentence in a county jail in Ohio. He went in on the 15th of this month. However, his facebook and aim were signed in to. Do the inmates get time to use a computer?
I hope they don’t. They don’t deserve privileges.
what is the difference between a city jail and a county jail?
20.February, 2010
Other than a city jail being run by the city, and the county jail run by the county-how do the sentences differ? Do people going to a city jail serve less than 90 day sentences and those in county run jails serve longer?
City and county jail are the same thing where i live. In New York we have Rikers Island, that’s where everybody goes if you are sentenced to under a year, or if you are going back and forth to court, then you can be there for a week to a few years depending on your case. Prison is where you go after your sentenced and you recieved more then a year
I am trying to find a female inmate in a Massachusetts prison. But online there is no search help?
20.February, 2010
Most states have a prison or record search for inmates or past criminal case after all it is public record. What makes Massachusetts so special in hiding those records?

What are the chances of someone going to jail for downloading something illegally offline?
18.February, 2010
It seems like everybody does it and nobody gets caught, but everyone warns if you do it you’re going to jail. What would be the fine, or jail sentence?
It depends where you’re downloading from.
The RIAA regularly monitors the gnutella network… This would include BearShare, Limewire, etc all those programs use the same network.. Pretty much any of the public, open, networks, yes. If you downloaded the program for free that lets you search the web for files using the P2P network, all of these programs use the same network and are monitored…
If you’re downloading from a private network - possibly. Again it depends on the network…
And it depends on what you’re downloading. games, programs not as much. Music, audiobooks and such are much more closely monitored. Porn is a big question mark - it depends on what kind of porn. Child porn is illegal even to HAVE even if you downloaded it by mistake - that one they do monitor VERY closely…
All those sites and all these kinds of files are well known to the hacker community too - so be prepared for LOTS of files that are bogus and are really viruses and/or malware… You better have REAL good anti-virus and anti-malware programs running all the time if you do any real downloading from these sites because your machine will get infected fast…
How much jail time for possesion and intent to distribute almost 2 kg of cocaine in Texas?
16.February, 2010
I am not looking for exact numbers here. I have a family member in jail that is awating to go to court. He is loosing it in there. He is looking for some answers and so am I. I have NO IDEA of how much jail time he is looking at. All we need is a ballpark figure. Please do not respond to this question with another question. Just help us out with some estimates. 5 years? 10 years?
It depends mostly on two factors; 1) Is he charged in State Court or Federal Court and 2) if he is charged in State Court, in what county are his charges pending.
Federal Court sentencing is very complex and depends on many factors, but because the Federal Sentencing Guidelines are used, you can fairly accurately what the guideline range will be.
State Court is more difficult to predict. Possession of more than 400 grams of cocaine is 1st degree felony with a range of punishment of 10-99 years or life. If it is possession with intent to distribute it is a "super" 1st degree with a range of punishment of 15-99 or life.
More important than the range of punishment is the County you are in. The more conservative counties will impose stricter sentences.
Can I write about an inmate in a book without his permission?
16.February, 2010
Can I write about an inmate in a book without his permission? Can I tell the story of the crimes safely as long as it is fact? Also can I give background information about them not relating to the crime itself? I assume I can if I can research it on the net where it is already printed but just want to make sure. Thxx
Oh, can I use their mugshots also?
nope-you need to get his permission
How does a girl react when a guy goes to jail over statutory rape for having consensual sex with them ?
14.February, 2010
I always hear about teenage guys anywhere from 17-19 going to jail for having consensual sex with a slightly younger girl anywhere from 15-16…sometimes even 17 too. I never hear about the girls reaction and how they take it tho since they dont really get into trouble…but how do the young ladies feel when a guy is thrown in jail over them?
Last year there was a special where a guy in his 20s took a 14 year old girl across state line to marry her in state where the legal age of marriage was 14. When he came back he was arrested. Even though her mother had given her consent and she was pregnant the judge did not relent. He went to jail but when he came back she stayed with him. She was still in love with him. I don’t think older guys should date teenage girls but I feel that in a situation where the parent give her consent the judge should not send the guy to jail. When you think of real rapist going free all the time and a guy who with his mother in law’s consent decide to live a monogamous relationship with the loves is put to jail, you know that something is wrong with the American justice system. It is not the first real case that i heard where a young man was sent to jail even though he had the mother’s consent.
My advice to all 18 year old who want to have sex with a girl under the age of consent is: DON"T TAKE THAT CHANCE.
Does anybody know what royal blue or blue means in the illinois correctional facilities?
14.February, 2010
My brother is in the big muddy river correctional facility in illinois. He is only supposed to spend 6 months in there. But his id is blue and people are saying that means some thing’s wrong. Does anybody know what the color classifications are for idoc?
The best thing for you to do would be to call the facility and ask about the color coding. The other people, have they been to that facility to know the color identification codes? Hope it’s nothing bad
