If the guards don’t do enough to protect the safety of an inmate, and the inmate gets beaten up or raped, can they sue the warden or the prison?
If the inmate can prove that the facility provided less that the ordinary effort to ensure safety, they could try to sue for negligence. It’s not impossible to win, just highly unlikely. That sort of violence is just part of the environment. Short of having everyone in solitary confinement 24/7, it can’t be completely elimanated.
What is life in a prison is like for a typical inmate and why? How would one adjust to living in prison?
28.February, 2010
What do you think would be your major issues as an inmate and why?
Honestly it depends on what kind of prison. My bf was in a low security prison which was an open dorm and had plenty of people to talk to and interact with. There are more politics in there then out here. There are rules to follow depending on what side you’re on. Its lonely because you don’t have the people to love, but for some they have no family and they enjoy the prison life. When hes in a 2 man cell they end up either becoming best friends or hating each other. They share stories and food. Its a thing that you just have to adjust. You end up finding someone that teaches you the way around. It sucks its no life for a person.

Can I write about an inmate in a book without his permission? Can I tell the story of the crimes safely as long as it is fact? Also can I give background information about them not relating to the crime itself? I assume I can if I can research it on the net where it is already printed but just want to make sure. Thxx
Oh, can I use their mugshots also?

How do i find out a court date for an inmate?
14.February, 2010
If there is an inmate that i have no conatct with in the prison in Indiana Springs has a court date, how do i find out when, and is it open to the public?? Can i go?
You would need some information to track the date down first. I’m not sure if you can just show up in court. You can find out when and where court is taking place and call the court house to see if it’s open to the public.
To find out about a court date…
Search for the clerk of the court in the county and state where the inmate is incarcerated or where the offense was committed. Navigate to the court calendar, sometimes called the court docket. Select the type of case like criminal, civil, etc…You may be able to search by the name and even case number.
Select the case associated with the name of the inmate you’re trying to find from the list of names and cases. There may be more than one case for the same person, or more than one person with the same name. If so, you can narrow it down using other information you may have, like date of birth, middle initial or crime committed. Cases are usually sorted with most recent at the top, so start at the top and work down.
Select the first case listed for the inmate. A full detail sheet of the history of the case will open. On the detail sheet, you’ll find the details of the charges and everything that has happened to date, money that is due or has been paid, whether there is bail, the attorney’s name, the judge’s name and court dates, including the next court date and the courtroom number. If this is not the case you’re interested in, go back to the listing and try the next case. Repeat as necessary until you find the case you’re looking for.

How much does it cost to execute a Death Row inmate?
17.December, 2009
I know what it costs to house a death row inmate, which is roughly the same as a regular one, which is around 20 grand, but what does it cost to physically kill him. How much does it cost to ride the lightning, breathe in the gas chamber, be injected with lethal liquids, be hanged, or be shot down by a firing squad?
Need I emphasize the PHYSICALLY part. I specifically said that I already know all of the appeals. What is the cost to PHYSICALLY end his life?
relatively inexpensive, but you’re forgetting the most expensive part: prosecuting him every time he appeals. It costs millions to kill a death row inmate.

How long does it take for an inmate to receive mail?
12.December, 2009
I sent a friend a letter today, when will he receive it? and is there a process it has to go through before it actually gets to the inmate?
Inmate mail travels just as fast as regular mail. The only stipulations are that once the mail is received at the institution, it must be logged, checked, and read by a qualified member of the correctional staff at that particular facility. Once it’s been cleared by the staff, it will be passed out whenever mail is passed out during the inmate’s "day." Usually, they have something called "mail call" at a specified time each day.
The only times when the mail situation gets messy for people corresponding with inmates is on weekends and holidays. For whatever reasons, some correctional facilities do not pass mail on weekends or certain holidays. They will continue to receive the mail and hold it over for the designated recipients until mail has been received and "processed" for the following business day.
If there is a problem with the letter you sent to your friend, there is a chance your friend won’t see it, or may only get part of it. Some institutions have strict rules and guidelines about the type, and content of mail received by inmates at their facility. If your letter happens to violate any of their rules, the institution will return it to you stating the reason, and hopefully send a message along with it informing you of their rules for inmate correspondence.
Good luck.
