I have 2 family members that work for Calif.Dept.of Corrections. One is a captain & the other a dental assistant. These two make very good money, have excellent benefits & a wonderful retirement which is wonderful for them. I went on a tour with my dental assistant relative of the CDC & these assistants & guards goofed around most of the day & the dental assistants read magazines & the captain kicks his feet up on his desk & plays "GOD"! These two feel everything is owed & constantly complained about the pay cut. What disgusts me is that these two did not go to college which is fine, but teachers who are educated make less money & they are the foundation for our children’s future. Also, a lot of these teachers are receiving lay off notices. That is what really bothers me about some state employees & these two are arrogant & expect everything handed to them because as the captain said, he is almost going to be warden & everyone will worship him. His wife the dental assistant also complains how all the other women correctional guards are after him because he is THE CAPTAIN & it really makes her angry because they like him because of the money he makes, which is exactly why the dental assistant relative had an affair with him, got knocked up while he was still married & they now have married. Dept.of Corrections has quite a few overpaid people with serious attitudes & I feel some of them that make the exuberant amounts should be the ones to take paycuts!!

Probably. The salaries were set when times were good in the economy and it was hard to get anyone to work in or around the prisons. Times have changed and California is $19 Billion underwater.
