I read before that almost 2/3 of federal inmates are illegal aliens. Then I recently found that only 29% are illegal aliens. Can anyone give me the exact number with a credible source?

It can vary from time to time as prison population turns over. Also, some statistics include federal prisoners only, others include federal & state. However, the percentages have pretty consistently exceeded 35% illegal aliens for the past couple of decades. Also, do they include all immigration-law violators (e.g. visa overstayers as well as illicit entry or Entry Without Inspection)? Center for Immigration Studies (CIS.org) typically have the most reliable numbers. PEW Hispanic is biased as they are apologists for immigration-law violators and advocates for immigration-law violators.

Does the inmate have to find out when the paperwork will go thru or does my friend have to call the jail.

Baby Girl,

no offense, but it may be best if you waited with the marriage until the inmate is being released from prison. Another aspect is that getting a job these days is darn difficult, yet impossible for a convicted felon. I don’t know what kind of life you have in mind for yourself, but I can’t imagine just scraping by can be very tempting. There are about 312 million people currently in the U.S. How about picking one that at least is not a criminal? How about doing one better by finding one that has a career and will be able to provide you with a decent life, nice things, vacations instead?

We can’t pick our parents, but we can pick whom we get married to.
Just thinking out loud here.

It is obviously not working. there are programs that have proven to be successful but are not being utilized. congress just approved a huge amount of funds to build more BOP facilities.
