Is it possible for ex convicts to become licensed and or certified in trades after incarceration?

Where can I find information on this topic? I know people who are convicted of crimes can be discharged from prison and get an education from a college, but are they able to get certified or licensed at a trade school?

I don’t know but I hope so. I feel many people like this need help.

  2. Yes, trades do not normally have good conduct or character requirements in place for certification. The felon will normally not be bondable, which can be a problem for some trades (most plumbers who work on call are bonded, for instance). That does not prevent the felon from becoming a registered tradesman, it simply limits where and under what conditions he can work.

  3. In Texas you can get a plumbing license if you pass a review. Each applying felon is subject to a review by the Board of Plumbing Examiners, some get a license, some don’t, a lot depends on the crime. Fraud or sexual crimes, definitely not. You can also lose your license if your convicted of a felony.

  4. Yes they can become certified and licensed in trades of choice. I am an ex felon myself and am considering the field of pharmacy technician. I wrote the certification board and let them see what I was charged with . They replied by letting me know I would not be able to take the certification exam until 2012. The wait is 5 years.

  5. yes you can, depending on your conviction, most criminal records become spent after a period of crime free behavior, this also depends where you live, best place to find out is on the net, check out your state gov legislation, or federal legislation, as I dont know what country you live in this would be your best option.
