Why is education being cut in favor of weapons and incarceration?

The politicians gonna make the U.S. look like a third world nation in a few years with all the financial mismanagement going down since schools are shutting down and consolidating but prisons are booming alongside the military with loads of weapons. That leaves most of the U.S. citizens rallying much like Hatians are doing right now to get stuff straightened out.

Because many want government downsized and education is an easier target than defense. Business works in defense and makes money, they don’t work for education, only teachers and educators do and everyone has some gripe about them though most could not get out the third grade without them. whether its unions, pensions, religious schools, the fact that we have some children with behavioral problems. Or that we adults don’t like to accept blame for our own crime rates and white collar, drug or criminal related crimes but take it out on children instead.

Problem is that in the U.S., money spent on public education doesn’t directly correlate with better test scores, higher intelligence, greater value of education, or any greater interest in learning.

Poor kids in Asia can, on average, destroy us in terms of academic performance. They seem to be interested in learning and competing academically. What interests U.S. kids lately? Video games?

No amount of money will correct bad parenting.

  2. that’s the G-O-P way better to pay 50,000 a year(per inmate) on incarceration then education..

  3. A) Weapons are needed. You are aware that there are many people out there who would like to kill as many of us as possible, right?

    B) I agree on the prison spending. If we DEPORTED all of the illegals in prison, we could save a mountain of money and give it to education.

What Buying is Voting said. Every citizen, and even on-citizens, legal or illegal, get FREE K-12 education, and in most states, heavily subsidized college educations. Given the dropout and truancy rates (even for primary school aged children!), this is a tremendous waste of money and resources. We need a cultural revolution to hold parents and students accountable. I am all for spending more money on mentoring programs and the like, but no more wasted dollars thrown at failing schools.

Social justice starts at home with people holding themselves accountable for their actions (or lack thereof).

Yo Jimmy- the $50K per year incarceration rate in California is largely due to the prison guards’ union, which is in bed with… DEMOCRATS.

  6. Maybe if the schools were as efficient as our military and our justice system, we wouldn’t need more money for either of those to cover for the failures of our public education system.

The problem is we’re turning into a entitlement society where people expect to be taken care of. Instead of taking care of ourselves and working for a living we’re depending on the government to give us handouts. That’s what happened in Greece as well as Haiti. Sooner or later we’ll become weak and dependent just like them. Afraid to pull ourselves away from the tit until it runs out of the proverbial milk we’ve become accustom to. Therefore education is cut because we can’t afford it, incarceration is increased because the uneducated feel there’s no other way to fulfill their needs except to victimize others. Military spending is increased because the world’s uneducated has had their minds altered to think that we are the source of all their problems.

  8. Its not just education that’s being cut, Corrections are to. As things get harder out here crime will continue to rise, people are desperate and turning to crime. My wife could lose her job as a teacher due to cut backs and I spent 9 years working in corrections have seen a lot of changes. More inmates with fewer officers to watch them 16 hour shift because of shortages in staff and admin not being able to hire more due to cut backs or hiring freezes. In Kentucky correctional officer only start out making 23, 000 a year and benefits aren’t very good either. Kind of hard to raise a family on that salary. Due to the Governments screw up with terrorist we are now being forces to reinforce our country against it. I am currently taking college classes in Homeland security and have been amazed at how much of this our country has caused. The damage has been done now, we do not have a choice on whether to arm ourselves or not. If you wish to stay safe its going to come at a price and we are seeing just a little of whats to come.

Weapons can’t get cut, otherwise the terrorists (once upon a time our ‘allies’ against Russia in those areas) will walk in even more brazenly than already.

You can’t cut incarceration because of all the illegals in gangs who make up 40% of federal inmates.

The schools have been poorly managed for decades, putting the teachers union above the needs of students. Disband the unions, put schools back into local state control, get the feds out and it might turn around.

MY guess would be education makes people smart. They can not control smart people. They can control people who are open to being brainwashed….." joining the military will get you a free education, as long as you don’t get killed or mamed first" and of coarse prisoners are in a controlled situation so they can not create problems.
