   In our department, we have "matrons". Every female officer is trained to handle these searches and if a female is arrested, one of these matrons is called in to conduct the search.

   These searches are handled in exactly the same way that a male officer would search a male suspect.

   If by some remote chance there aren’t any females on duty, one of two things happens: (1) an off-duty female officer is called in or (2) a female attorney or other similar figure is brought in to witness the search conducted by the male officer to make sure that no "extracurricular" activities take place.

   If it’s not a strip search, these searches are conducted within view of the surveillance cameras so that there is also a recorded version of the search.

   Keep in mind here that there is a difference between a search and inappropriate contact. The fact that you have breasts and a vagina does not make you exempt from those areas being searched. The ultimate goal is the safety of the officer and the safety of the offender. (The officer needs to make sure you don’t have anything in your possession that could be used to harm yourself once you are placed in the cell or taken into custody.)

   since you are saying inmate…i am assuming this is after being sent to county jail or prison…not a simple detention arrest…..
   you would first strip off your clothing
   then run hands through hair, lift under breasts, squat and cough, lift of heels of feet, and open mouth and run fingers inside gum line…that is your basic search for an inmate

   When I arrested and had to be searched they took me and all the other women to a room They had use take off all our make up once that was done we lined up and and a officer walked over and and had me flip my hair from back to front they had me open my mouth and run my fingers around my gum’s and they checked inside my mouth. I had to hold out my hands spread my fingers and wiggle them they then checked them bottom of my feet and had me wiggle my toes. Next they had me take my shirt off ad show my under arms next remove my bra and raise my boobs up. they then had me remove my pants and panties they then examined my girl part and my butt after all that I had to squat an cough
