what does it mean when an inmate is out to court?

on the new york docs inmate search one of the inmates at the bedford hills prison is "out to court" what does that mean? because it has been on an inmates custody status for a few days now.

since she is in bedford hills that means she is a sentenced prisoner and she probably has an opened court case in another county that is holding her for the case in that county, but again since she is sentenced, she will have to be returned to bedford hills.
i.e. if she was transported to nyc and rikers island, she will stay there until her case is either adjudicated or her next court date is more than14 days from her last court date for the opened case.

  1. He may have a court appearance in another city or county and is being housed temporarily at the local jail.

Court could be a trial, an arraignment, appeals hearing or other appearance.

This way they don’t have to transport him down and back every day he has court. Saves on manpower.

  3. This is a standard procedure in prisons for incarcerated felons who must appear in court. It can be for outstanding warrants, a new case or as a witness in another case and has been subpoenaed.

The inmate will be transported by Deputies from the county that he will be in court. Marshalls will transport in case of Federal court appearances.

The reason they are transported is solely due to the proximity of the courtroom to the county jail versus the state prison.

Once the case is resolved, the inmate will be transported back to the prison.

I hope this helps and you can find it useful
