Is it illegal to pretend to be an inmate?

For halloween I’m going to be an inmate ordering the real suit and real handcuffs but is it illegal ( on a day other than halloween) to pretend to be an inmate? I know it’s illegal to pretend to be a cop, so would it be the same for an inmate?
Added: I don’t plan on wearing the costume ( and yes, it’s a real jumpsuit and orange slip ons) any other time other than for trick-or-treating and a halloween party, but I was just curious because I’ve never heard anyone talk about impersonating an inmate.

Although it is noted above, I want to REALLY stress the fact that if you buy the "real" looking orange jump suit and orange sneakers, you will be stopped by any law enforcement officer that sees you on the street.

You are not breaking any laws here, but the officer will NOT believe that you are dressing for Halloween. We fully expect to be lied to by an offender or an escapee, so the standard procedure would be to detain you long enough to run your prints and social and verify that you are not wanted nor an escapee.

It will take longer than Halloween night and your evening will be ruined. NOT a good idea for a fun costume.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you

  1. dont think so you can endanger some ones life that way
pretending to be a doctor or cop is illegal cause if you take action with out being certified you can get in trouble
you dont need to be certified to be an inmate LOL

  2. The reason inmates at practically every penal institution are required to wear uniforms is so that they can easily be spotted if they escape. If people start dressing in that way as a fashion statement, people may not notice a real escapee. Remember, some of these people really are very dangerous!

Even if it is not illegal to impersonate a prison inmate outside of prison, I believe it is irresponsible, and puts others in danger.

  6. As the above people have said its lawful, however.

Make sure the costume looks like… well a costume. There was one costume I saw that had me out of the car and pointing shiny objects at him because it looked just like our inmate jumpsuits.
