Why are inmates receiving this kind of attention?

We need to do something about all the crime in
america. If you dont obey the law, then you pay the price. Simple as
that.

Seriously why keep them in jail.? Were paying for their food, housing, and
medical bills.

Inmates get some of the best medical attention. I read once that an Inmate had a
heart transplant. For us, pshh we’d have to pay thousands..

Whats your take on it and why?
I’m not a very good writer but the point i was trying to make was that prisoners in general receive better medical care than a lot of tax paying citizens.

Wow, so far you seemed to received answers from people who really aren’t thinking, or who have been so trained in saying, "BAA-AAA.: that they don’t even know they can look at things from a different angle.

The saying, "They did the crime, they can do the time" ISN’T supposed to describe the American people who get the major shaft each time they have to pay $50,000 to keep someone in prison for a year for smoking a joint or writing a bad check, or shoplifting.

We need to totally revamp our justice system and our prison system. Violent crime, especially rape and murder ought to be punishable by death, and not after years and years of appeal. Few crimes should require jail time, lots of community service could be performed. Why not have inmates building roads and doing some of this work that we have to pay so much money for? We should not be like Mexico where people die of neglect and abuse in jail, but we should give them an adequate but basic diet, without desserts, and a warm dry place to sleep, but work during the daytime, and then a couple of hours of TV or a movie at night… no tv all day long laying around their jail cell. Heck, most of US work a full day, then if we’re lucky, we might come home and relax for a few hours at night. More and more we go from our job to a second job and work another 4 hours. Why is it the inmates right to lay around watching tv or working out in a gym?

If we had swift and sure, if criminals KNEW they faced absolute consequences of dire porportion, the crime rate would drop. It is the namby-pambying around with criminals that has their numbers growing at an alarming rate. It’s like telling a toddler, "Don’t get in the cookie jar." And then smiling fondly when he does so. It doesn’t work.

The American taxpayer is paying for crime over and over and over with the ridiculous price of incarcerating criminals, and we could cut that cost way down by requiring the death penalty for murder and rape, and release time/community service for all criminals who are not a danger to the community, and strick, unhappy prison terms for those who are a threat to thse who fall in the middle.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way. Why can’t we just set out to ensure that every American citizen receives health care if they need it regardless of their financial condition? Why can every other first world country afford to do this, but the United States can’t?

  2. If we don’t keep them in jail where are going to keep them? On an island somewhere in the middle of the pacific ocean where the inmates would fight amongst each other for survival. Sounds like a solution until a dominant cruel overlord inmate would arise and organize the convicts into an army, an army of of revenge! poised to take out their rage on the ones that imprisoned them on that God forsaken island. God help us if they ever got back to civilization. God help us!

  4. If they did the crime, they should spend the time. A large percent of inmates when released,. are back in again for another crime. The medical care is some what exaggerated, a friend of mind is a nurse in a prison in Texas.

  6. Once you are detained in jail the state pays for all medical and dental care for inmates, that being said, the taxpayer foots the bill to cover; housing, food, jump suits and commissary etc.

  7. I know first hand about the New York State Prison system. Inmates who are transsexual can have their sex changed. I have no problem with basic medical treatment or emergency medical treatment in the event of a stabbing. One inmate doing life had a operation on his heart. Medically his heart was stopped during the operation and he was put on life support. After the operation and his recovery, he said that since he was dead, his life sentence should be lifted. The court ruled against him. The liberals run the system. Now inmates who are married and have good behavior can have conjugal visits, if the wife becomes pregnant, she can get child support from the state. The administration is pro inmate and anti-staff. I had an incident where I was fighting an inmate, he was trying to rip my eye out, my shirt was almost ripped off. I finally subdued him and locked him in a secure room. Reported the incident to the Watch Commander on duty, who dispatched another lieutenant to the scene. The first thing out of his mouth was, how´s the inmate? A riot in 1970 at Sing-Sing. I was in the yard, people were being slashed with razors, I grabbed on inmate who was cut, took him to the prison hospital, and was chewed out by the Deputy Superintendent of Security because my shirt was bloody.
These are just some of incidents occurring yearly, monthly and daily.
