How long is Los Angeles County Jail allowed to hold you in jail if you have an Orange County warrant?

Is there a time limit for Los Angeles County Jail to transfer you to the county you have a warrant? Aren’t they suppose to release you after 72 hours if they dont do the transfer?

The 72 hours is the amount of time you can be held until you are formally charged. When a warrant is issued, you have already been charged, so the 72 hour rule does not apply.

They will hold you for whatever time it takes Orange County comes to get you.

  1. A county jail is authorized to hold a person for whatever reason for a period of no longer than one year. Now depending on the warrant division of the latter said county, it is at their descretion to extradict you to orange co, or they could just simply put a hold on the detainment and have you serve the time at the facility that picked you up.. either way it’s going to fall on disposition of the warrant and the issuing department.

*I use the word "you" very loosely in this, not saying it was you that it involved*

  4. Yeah, unfortunately they can hold you for up to a year. If you didn’t have a warrant already they would have to formally charge you.

Fortunately for you (or whoever has a warrant) LA is really full and will probably try to get you transfered as quickly as possible.
