what is the difference between a city jail and a county jail?

Other than a city jail being run by the city, and the county jail run by the county-how do the sentences differ? Do people going to a city jail serve less than 90 day sentences and those in county run jails serve longer?

City and county jail are the same thing where i live. In New York we have Rikers Island, that’s where everybody goes if you are sentenced to under a year, or if you are going back and forth to court, then you can be there for a week to a few years depending on your case. Prison is where you go after your sentenced and you recieved more then a year
