They have school programs and work programs and you get to go outside. In jail you sit in your cell and in the day room all day. Whereas jails are dirtier, smaller, less privacy, but easier to escape from and less trained personnel. I understand that the private jail that some states have bought into are a disaster, Underpaid and untrained staff ,Therefore more brutality and often far from home so visiting is impeded.
