Should all the inmates of prisons and jails be fed only vegetarian meals?
I think they would be eating a lot less poisoned food if they did. And maybe their attitudes and directions in life would change. If I were warden of a prison, that is exactly what would be done, And throw out the weights, if they want to be healthy they can all become long distance runners!
Fruits and vegetables are extremely limited in prisons and jails because they are expensive. So are milk and juice. Diets of inmates consist mostly of carbohydrates. Snacks bought from commissary are mostly carbohydrates also. It is a thoughtful idea but it will not happen. Some prisons/jails in the south have farms where they grow vegetables but not enough to provide vegetarian diets for the inmates. You won’t see many inmates running either! That might not be very safe! Your ideas are great, though. There have been studies on malnutrition that suggest behavior and judgment can be affected by lack of nutrients. One study on teen-aged boys who commit heinous crimes suggests that the young men are lacking zinc in their system and that could be a contributing factor in their criminal behavior. There is so much we do not know about how horrible American eating habits of processed foods affect our behaviors and mental wellness. Keep thinking about this issue and you may be the person who comes up with a good solution! Interesting question!
Technically the don’t have to EAT the meat. But it’s a necessity because humans need the protein and other nutrients from meat.

I believe that people in prison’s are living very well, almost too well, atleast that’s the case in Canada.

1) Not eating meat doesn’t mean you’re healthier, and their food isn’t poisoned.
2) Throw out weights and make them all run? Umm what?
They’re in prison, not a health-care clinic.
