What is a typical day like for a prison inmate from waking up to going to sleep again at night?

Sometimes I think that the American Prison system is flawed and that people get a way out by simply being sentenced to a prison paid for by the tax money of people struggling to make it day to day like myself. Can someone give me the typical day of a prison inmate in a maxium security facility. Maybe the answers would change my mind.

P.S. I would love to hear from some convicts who have actually served time.

I have served time in a female prison not a maximum but the typical day was simple get up eat breakfast or pass make up your bed start your day depending on if you had a job or not eat lunch spend time on the yard eat dinner get meds. bed.

some of the C.O’s can be friendly others are strict and have no problem shaking you down not all the inmates are nice and its very noisy and uncomfortable its either to cold or to hot.

What do the police do when you give an inmate a cake?

I mean like honestly the whole metal file in the cake business would be enough to add some precautions. I mean I’ve heard that they just don’t give the inmate the cake or that they check it by poking holes in it or by running a metal detector over it. You can hide way more dangerous stuff like a pistol or a knife u know?

you have to eat it right there at the vistor place

What do you do with an at risk prison inmate?

What if an inmate, who was still awaiting trial, was in danger of being killed by other inmates due the knowledge he had? What do you do with the inmate? Would you move them to another facility? Would you move them to a "secure" wing of the existing facility? What happens exactly?

Stick them in solitary or move them to another part of the jail.

Most jails (where suspects are kept pre trial) are segregated by "wings". The "wings" all house a certain amount of inmates. The inmates in a particular wing or pod eat, socialize, and sleep together, and often do not see any of the other inmates.

It is pretty easy to keep them separate.

What is the average cost to house an inmate in the United States for one year?

I’ve read numbers ranging from $20,000 to almost $50,000 per year per inmate.

Can anyone provide a reference or any more information on this subject?

I don’t have a reference handy but I have heard the $50k/year figure before. It needs to be driven downward to about $5k/year. And they people in jails and prisons should have to pay their own way for anything beyond subsistence.
