What are the marital rights of Inmates on Death Row in countries other than the USA?

I’m doing a paper on Human Rights, focusing on Gay Rights, and want to find information on the marital rights of ‘criminals’ on death row in other countries. I know inmates on death row in the USA can be married, but what about places like Europe and Asia? I’ve been searching for literature on this, but failing in finding it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you can please include links to any sources.

Thanks!

interesting question.

I couldn’t find it either, but wanted to make sure you considered this:

Most industrialized countries have banned the death penalty. Of those countries who have not, there are limited appeal rights and so execution occurs much much faster than it does in the US.

here’s some information. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777460.html

if you do find your information, please post it in your additional details. I would like to read it

How can I find out about inmates to write to?

I’d like to write to some inmates in both juvenile hall and regular penitentiaries who are serving time for charges related to psychedelic drugs. I want to know that they grew/synthesized/sold things like acid, peyote, mushrooms — not cocaine or meth or anything. I am writing a paper (not for school). I am 16 so I can’t visit, but I’d like to write letters.

Is there any way to find out who I could contact?

For a while I was writing to prisoners. There are a couple of websites — some address are free, some only the men are free (the women you have to pay for) and others are not free. I think some of the sites will tell you what they are in for.

HOWEVER — these sites have a restriction that you have to be at least 18 to enter.

Are Missouri Department of Corrections officers allowed to carry a weapon off duty?

Hi, I was in one of my criminal justices classes the other day and we got to talking about the differences between corrections officers and police officers. One of the things we discussed was if corrections officers in missouri are allowed to carry a concealed weapon off duty. I know that police officers are allowed to pretty much carry a concealed firearm anywhere including government buildings. Do corrections officers have the same right? Also are they allowed access to firearms that are usually restricted to law enforcement?

In most states, I believe Missouri included, corrections officers are not always commissioned Police Officers, although there may be some commissioned Police Officers who work as corrections officers.

Being a ‘correction officer’ does not give you any police powers or authority, and therefore, cannot carry a weapon off duty.

The exception to that would be a corrections officer who has a Concealed Weapon Permit, or the equivalent.

Can you give me names for effective correctional facilities such as boot camps for male teens?

In the state of CA an dif possible no cost ones, but even if you have to pay…dont matter. I just want different names of possible schools like this.thank you very much!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know of any military schools out in CA for teens, but I do know of a couple of boarding schools that are perfect for helping teens to improve their behavior. I was sent to one that helped me straighten up and realize that there are consequences to all actions and to think about what I do before I do it.
Oneida Baptist Institute. If you don’t like the Religious influence, then there is also Redbird. They are both great schools that are very structured. Each student while they are there are responsible for having jobs (3:45-5:15) is an example of the hours. They have to get themselves up to get to class, they have to get to breakfast and diner on time and if they don’t then they don’t eat. There are lots of things that are positive about these schools.
OBI is in Kentucky and I believe that Redbird is too.
I know you asked about military type schools but I hope I helped anyway.

How do some inmates get special priveleges?

I’ve seen prisoners with tvs, snack boxes , headphones. I’m sure prison is still pretty tough and no where I’d want to be but some inmates are getting high also. Why are my tax dollars paying for criminals to loaf around watch tv and get high all day. Not to mention conjugal visits!! What haPpened to prison being prison?

if an inmate has family to support him, they can send him money and he then buys those items from the prison commissary at a greatly inflated price; much more than you or I could buy it at a regular store.
that is the same with clothing, toiletries and most anything a prisoner wants. they also have the opportunity, after they have been in there a while, to work to earn some money. It is very small amount but it is money THEY earn.
Your tax dollars pay for the basics; the prisoner or his family or both pay for the rest.
At least in North Dakota prison system.
As to getting high in there, well folks are real good at figuring out ways to send contraband through the mail. For every safeguard set in place to prevent that, someone gets a better idea.

Opinions on Correctional Facilities?

So, I have to do a presentation for my philosophy class on whether or not correctional facilities help or hurt. I just wanted some opinions so I can try to cover all the different viewpoints. Thanks so much for any input.

The biggest benefit to society is public safety: They help with keeping dangerous criminals off of the streets. As far as rehabilitating the inmates, the success is limited. In some estimates the recidivism rate is approximately 70%, but that is still 30% who learn how to mend their ways.
